This chimes with my practice. It is easy to take the equanimity of Buddhism (upekkhā) to be a kind of laid back indifference when the opposite is the case.  The combination of the four Brahmavihara (loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity) plug us into experiencing life to the full.
