Biography

I am sometimes asked for a biographical comment in the third person and so keep this one handy:

Third Person Profile

Roger Hyam trained as a botanist firstly with an MSc in Plant Taxonomy at Reading University and then a PhD on the systematics of Rhododendron at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. After contributing to the award winning Ethnoflora of Soqotra he left botany to pursue his interest in information technology further. He spent five years working in commercial software development before an opportunity arose to combine his two great interests on a short contract for GBIF. This has been followed by a series of roles within the emergent biodiversity informatics community including acting as the convenor of the TDWG Technical Architecture Group and developing the Biodiversity Collections Index. Roger is currently working on the EU funded Pan-European Species directories Infrastructure (PESI) for the Natural History Museum London although he lives with his family in Edinburgh and collaborates with a network colleagues across the globe.

Roger’s Curriculum Vitae is available on line.

I was wondering how many comments you have on your page about pine nuts. There are just so many it’s hard to count. Thousands? I have had this happen twice now and am very interested in figuring out what is going on. It would be good to know how many people have commented on your pine nut page. Thanks!
